I love retreats.
The delicious chance to take a break.
To tuck myself away for a second.
To really rest.
Actually, I’m the kind of person who totally needs retreats.
To stay happy.
And balanced.
And plugged in.
And full of creative awesomesauce.
And in the flow of fabulousness.
Retreats are as important to me as good sleep and good food and good friends.
Because, seriously, retreats just make life better.
They’re the perfect antidote for living life in fast forward. And the remedy for the huge toll the crazy fast pace takes on us.
Three words: The Comfort Queen
So when Jen asked me to present at her Virtual Retreat I was crazy excited.
Because Jen is the Comfort Queen.
Not just the Comfort Queen. But THE Comfort Queen.
And she ain’t called that for nothin’.
I mean, hello, she’s written books about comfort. And she’s been on Oprah talking about comfort. She even has a whole corner of the interwebs devoted to comfort!
So a retreat put together by the Comfort Queen?
Count. Me. In.
Danger, Will Robinson!
Oh, and that whole takes-a-toll-on-us thing?
Any of this sound familiar?
- You’re tired in a way that sleep doesn’t fix.
- You’re cranky and restless and feeling rough around the edges.
- You’re so stressed you feel like you might implode. Or explode. Or both.
- You’re feeling way less inspired and way less creative than usual.
- No matter how hard or how much or how long you work, nothing’s really getting done.
- You’ve lost touch with where you’re going, what you need and who you are.
- You’re overcommitted, overextended and just generally over it.
- You’re teetering on the edge of burnout.
This stuff seriously sucks.
And it’s way too common. So common, in fact, that it’s easy to start feeling like that’s just how life is.
It’s not.
At least, it doesn’t have to be.
Time out
You can press pause.
And get off the crazy train.
And get back to you for a minute.
Retreats are like calling a time out. And taking a deep breath. And hitting the reset button.
They make space to unplug from life and to plug back in to yourself.
To refill. And refuel. And give yourself what you really need.
To reconnect to your own fabulousness. And smartness. And wisdom.
Which makes it a thousand times easier to get back to life in a way that actually works.
Way better than brussels sprouts
So, yeah, I think retreats are just one of those essential things. Because they feed you and nurture you and make your life gorgeous.
They’re good for you.
And, unlike eating brussels sprouts, which are also supposedly good for you, retreats are actually delicious. And fun.
But it’s not like you’re spending your days kicking back, watching soaps and eating bonbons, right?
Because if you had that kind of time you wouldn’t be feeling like you’re about to come apart at the seams.
So I totally get how annoying it is when someone goes on and on about some fabulous something that you just have to do that also happens to take a ton of time or a ton of money.
One smart shindig (aka Bring on the bunny slippers)
That’s one of the uber cool things about the shindig that Jen’s put together. She’s created a retreat for folks who live in the real world.
Which means you get to decide how much time you spend on the retreat.
You can retreat for an hour. Or an afternoon. Or a day. Or the whole weekend.
Whatever works for you and your life.
Because the retreat happens on the phone. So you’re not trapped in a retreat center in the middle of nowhere. Forced to follow some pre-set program.
You can totally dip in and out whenever you want.
Plus you can save the time and the headache and the cash of having to catch a plane and rent a car and pay for a room.
The only trip you’ll have to make is to your phone.
And maybe to the fridge to refill your favorite beverage before curling back up on the couch to soak up the gorgeousness.
And since this gathering of much awesomeness is happening on the phone, you can retreat in your favorite pajamas and fuzzy bunny slippers and nobody will ever know.
Score!
Not just a bunch of blah blah blah
One of the things that got me really excited about this retreat is that Jen wants it to be experiential.
Not just a bunch of blah blah blah. Because you’re probably up to your eyes in blah blah blah.
So instead this is all about direct experience.
Of support. And nurturing. And fabulousness.
Hanging out with a whole bunch of making-life-beautiful-again mojo.
And that rocks.
Get your gorgeous on!
So my contribution to the making-life-beautiful-again thing is an hour long mini-retreat with my pal Hiro Boga.
We’ve put together something that combines sacred sound and a cool guided process, which will help you to remember how absolutely fabulous and amazing you really are. And allow you to totally fill up on that fabulousness.
I’m a big believer in the idea that once you really get how gorgeous you are, it’s pretty much impossible to go back to believing you’re not.
Touching that kind of awesome changes you forever.
And the sacred sound part of this gig? It’s something that I’m recording just for this retreat. Because what Jen has put together really is that special.
So this thing that Hiro and I are doing is a lot like a concert that takes you straight to your awesome.
Rock on!
And, seriously, check out the amazing stuff the other presenters are doing.
